Report on Bat Walk at Bassetts Mead

Our Administrative Officer (Community Engagement), Pam Mercer, joined Ciara and volunteers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust last night on the bat walk around the beautiful Bassetts Mead.
Our officer said “it was a really lovely hour spent walking through the beautiful Bassetts Mead. Ciara was extremely knowledgeable about the different bats that were being heard on the bat detectors. The bats took a while to emerge, but as it got darker, the more that appeared, particularly near the river. It was great that it was an activity that you could take children on (although it was quite late) as there was no need to be silent or hidden in a hide (as with many other nature spotting activities) as humans talking didn’t affect the bats. I would highly recommend coming on the next bat walk”
There are a number of activities happening at Bassetts Mead over the next month. Please contact Ciara () if you wish to attend one of the guided walks in case there is any need to cancel at the last minute. She can also advise where the meeting point will be.
The normal meeting place is the car park off Doctors Acre near the Dave Deadman Children’s Play area RG27 9UW (What3words location///shops.groups.shadowing)
