News Bulletin: October 2012

If you wish to keep up to date with issues affecting Hook and the work of Hook Parish Council there are a number of ways to do so. Our website has a large amount of information, historic, current and ongoing. There are also a range of links to other useful sites for both local, District and County services. We regularly communicate information to residents using our 4 Noticeboards and Hook Focus. Hot topics, particularly those which occur outside the copy deadlines for Hook Focus or have a short lifespan (e.g. M3 closures), are posted through the “Hook Announcements” Yahoo Group, Facebook, Twitter and other local networks with the support of the Hook Schools and Neighbourhood Watch. To keep abreast of updates please see the links on our website.

During the summer discussions on improvements to the bus service have been on-going between the parishes and towns affected by the recent cuts. We have been waiting for a key meeting with the Managing Director of Stagecoach. However, due to the bus company’s commitments to the Olympics, this has yet to take place. We would like to hear from all residents who have a current or future need for bus services to strengthen our campaign. Please send your comments to The Clerk by e-mail or letter – contact details below.

The Parish Council was very pleased to receive letters of thanks for the recently installed Jubilee Benches. A number of residents have made good use of them so far.

Hampshire County Council is currently rolling out a 5 year programme of street lighting replacement and upgrading across the authority. Works are expected to commence in Hook, in 2013. On 10th October, the Parish Council has been invited to an event to learn more about this project and provide feedback to County. Areas which we would welcome comments from residents on, in advance of this event, are

  • Levels of dimming. (If your lights are already dimmed, is it to the right level? If not, should they be?)
  • Areas where additional lighting, or other measures, are required to assist residents and emergency services
  • Specific requirements for other roads or residents.

Hampshire Trading Standards will be offering free Electric Blanket Safety Testing. This is being carried out in various venues across Hampshire, but will be Hook Community Centre, Ravenscroft on Wednesday 31st October between 12.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. Other dates and venues are available. Please telephone Trading Standards and make an appointment to get your blanket checked on 01962 833 358.

We had a good response to the newsletter article about the recruitment of  Village Agents. Due to the level of response we are now anticipating securing funding to have three agents covering Hook and Rotherwick. The appointments will be announced in the December Focus, following final interviews and training in November. We are very encouraged to see so many enthusiastic Hook residents willing to give their time to help others in our community.
