News Bulletin: March 2017

After the success of last year’s event, the Parish Council will host another Health & Wellbeing Day on Saturday, 20th May between 11.00am – 5.00pm in Hook Community Centre, thanks to a Big Lottery Fund grant. The event is free to both exhibitors and visitors.  Last year’s feedback revealed that the day provided a great village networking opportunity, whether visiting or exhibiting.

The day is a great chance to interact with and find out about the great organisations, activities, charities and clubs operating in Hook. If your charity or organisation would like a free display/demo space please email: events@hook.gov.uk.

In addition to display stands, there will be training on how and when to use the defibrillator, first aid training and a host of other demonstrations.  Refreshments will be available with proceeds going to Hook in Bloom. More details in future editions of Hook Focus.

Coinciding with our event, Hart have a Wellbeing focused Festival from 7 – 21st May, aimed at helping more people to get more active, more often.    This is a two week programme of discounted or free physical activity sessions across Hart and Rushmoor.  Watch out for publicity about the programme of events.

Keeping with the wellbeing theme, to coincide with National No Smoking Day on 8th March, Hook Parish Council is supporting Hart in introducing a voluntary code of non-smoking in children’s playgrounds and open spaces in Hook.  Signs will put up in all our play areas, politely asking people not to smoke whilst in the play area.  Your support in making this initiative a success is much appreciated.

Representatives of Hook Parish Council attended Hart District Council’s Cabinet meeting, held on the 9th February 2017, to consider the latest draft of the Local Plan. The target for new homes was agreed and the draft Local Plan based on these allocations was authorised to progress to consultation in accordance with Regulation 18 of the Town and Country Planning Act, scheduled for March 2017. The agreed allocation for consultation can be viewed in the minutes of the Hart Cabinet meeting via:  http://www.hart.gov.uk/February-Meetings.

On 16th February, current and past Councillors joined celebrations to mark the 35th anniversary of Jane Bonnin becoming a Parish Councillor.  Jane moved to Hook in 1976 with her young family.  Since joining the Council Jane has served as Chairman of the Council, Chairman of the Planning & Staff Committees.  She also developed the Council’s website and IT systems.  In addition, she has been involved in a wide range of activities with local organisations and societies

When asked for comment on reaching this landmark anniversary, Jane said “in 1982, when I first took my seat on Hook Parish Council, Hook was less than a third of the size it is now. We had the old Elizabeth Hall and the King George V Playing Field, but no other facilities. It’s been a great privilege working with successive teams of Parish Councillors and staff to seize opportunities for making improvements and providing new facilities such as the Community Centre and Hartletts Park, as Hook has grown”.

Do you know anyone who should be recognised with the Hook Community Award?  Service to the community, for which the award is to be considered, must have been on an entirely voluntary basis, over a sustained period. Previous nominations that did not result in an award will not be carried forward, so please re-nominate. Nominations should be emailed to clerk@hook.gov.uk by 31st March 2017.

The format of the AVM, with an exhibition and displays from local organisations followed by formal reports and questions, has not changed for several years.  We would like to hear residents’ views on the format and what other activities, presentations or speakers may be of interest future meetings.

The Parish Council will be more involved with Hook Village Show.  A group of councillors have formed a working party to plan the activities taking place in Hartletts Park. If any organisations would like a stand at the show please email: chris.terrey1@gmail.com.  All proceeds from the event will support Hook In Bloom.

If you would like to have an informal chat with a Parish Councillor about anything relating to Hook, please join us in Hartletts Café on the 4th Tuesday of every month in from 6 – 7pm. The next one is on Tuesday 28th March, followed by 27th April 2017.
