Poppies on lampposts and Remembrance Sunday (14th November 2021)

A team of volunteers have kindly offered to help install (and then remove) poppies on lampposts around Hook to commemorate Remembrance Day. At the time of writing the plan is for them to go up at the beginning of November.

As part of the commemorations, the Parish Council plan to lay a wreath at the War Memorial and fly the Union Jack flag on the flagpole at Hartletts Park (opposite the Community Centre) throughout the Remembrance weekend.

Planning Updates

Many of you are aware that Sainsbury’s has announced that work is due to start on the construction of a new store on the North East Hook/David Wilson Homes development.  The store will be 25,000 sq. ft and will include an on-site bakery, Argos Store and non-food items, in addition to its normal food provisions.  Customer access will be off the B3349 Griffin Way North and enhancements to enlarge every arm on the roundabout at the B3349/A30 intersection will improve traffic flow.  It is hoped the store will open towards the end of 2022.

Care Homes

Two planning applications to build ‘older care facilities’ on greenfield sites in Hook were unanimously refused by Hart Planning Committee on 13th October. Hook Parish Council and Hook Action Against Over Development (HAAOD) each presented the case against both applications. There were many grounds for refusal, and Hart Councillors in their summing up highlighted the unsuitability of both locations being greenfield sites situated outside the settlement boundary and distant from the village centre. They were also critical of the applicants’ limited search for alternative brownfield sites in the applications and the inaccurate assessment of need for such development in Hook.  Both applicants have the opportunity to appeal against these decisions.   If you would like to watch the Hart’s Planning Meeting the video is here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnEMDYJXcjY&t=3620s

Stratfield House

Planning permission has been granted for the change of use of the first and second floor offices to provide nine residential apartments at Stratfield House, Station Road. Office space will be retained on the ground floor and work has already commenced on the conversion of the building.
