Community Christmas Lunch

The 2019 Hook Community Christmas Lunch was full of fun and merriment.  Thank you to all the residents and businesses, who have either donated time, money or goods to this event.  All those who attended (both volunteers and guests) had a fantastic time.

Become a Parish Councillor

The closing date for the vacancy that arose due to the resignation of Gill Miller was 31st Jan   However, we now have another vacancy due to the resignation of Ian Warner.  At the time of writing, we are awaiting to see if an election will be called or whether we will proceed to co–option again.  Please contact, Anne Atkins, the Executive Officer at the Parish Council Office for a chat about the role of Councillor.

Community Safety

A number of residents attended the January Parish Council meeting to voice their concerns about the recent increase in burglaries and anti-social behaviour (ASB).   The Manager of Budgen also attended to advise of the increase in shoplifting and ASB in some of the stores around the village centre.  In both cases, there was discontent with the lack of police resource to deal with such incidents, despite evidence being available.   The Council agreed to form a Community Safety Working Group, to investigate ways to reduce crime and antisocial Behaviour in Hook, which complement the work of the local police team.

At the January Parish Council meeting the Parish Precept for 2020 – 21 was set at £437,000. This means an average Band D household will pay £2.32 per week, equivalent to – less than a coffee at a local café.

The Precept covers the running costs of the variety of facilities, land management and services provided by the Parish Council.  We continue to offer free pre-application planning consultations and advice as to where to find information for other matters.  We offer support to numerous local organisations, events and charities.  Where possible, we obtain additional funding to enable enhancements to the facilities in Hook

Community Award

Do you know of anyone in Hook whose contribution to their neighbourhood or the local community should be recognised with the Hook Community Award?  The award is presented each year at the Annual Village Meeting.  The only firm rule for nomination is that the person or organisation must have given service to our community, on an entirely voluntary basis and over a sustained period.  If you have previously nominated someone, who was not the successful nominee that year, due to the stiff competition, please re-nominate them again for consideration this year.  Nominations should be submitted in writing to the Parish Council Office or emailed to clerk@hook.gov.uk.  Closing date for nominations is by 30th March 2020.  The nomination form can be found on our website at https://hook.gov.uk/about-hook-parish-council/council-publications/documents/ under other documents.

Annual Village Meeting

Are you involved with a local organisation?  Tables can now be booked for the Hook Annual Village Meeting (AVM) on Wednesday 29th April.  The format is of the evening is the same as in previous years.  Doors will open to the public for refreshments and a chance to look round the exhibition of local organisations at 8 pm.  Last year, over 25 groups were represented at the exhibition and the 150 residents enjoyed some entertaining presentations during the formal part of the evening.  If your organisation is working on or has completed a project and would like to do a short presentation at the meeting, on this, please let us know.
