BBC Children In Need Rickshaw Challenge came to Hook

Over 2000 people braved the cold to welcome the BBC Children In Need Rickshaw Challenge to Hook on Sunday 11th November.  It was lovely to see so much support for this charity.  Matt Baker was so impressed he commented that “Hook is one of the friendliest places I have ever been to”.

Despite finishing later than expected (around 7:30pm) all the riders, Pudsey, Matt Baker and the team came and spoke to many of the well-wishers and took selfies with those who wanted them, before heading off for some well-earned rest.

Pudsey entertained the crowds and showed off his “flossing” moves and BBC Radio Solent compered the event.

Debra Davies (Vice Chairman of Hook Parish Council), Marian Bright (Senior Administrative Officer) and George Evans (a local student) presented a cheque for £100 on behalf of the Parish Council to Matt Baker.

The team were back at the school the on Monday 12th November at 6:15am ready to set off to Royal Wootton Bassett.  Thank you to those of you who got up early to come and see them off.  Your support was really appreciated.

Lock up and keep property safe

With Christmas around the corner, thieves are often attracted by the visible gifts around the tree so this is a time to ensure that you secure your property. Small steps can help.  Free advice can be obtained from https://www.bluelamptrust.org.uk/Bobby_Scheme or https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/burglary/

Register your valuables with the national tagging service at www.immobilise.com/.  This assists Police in returning your property should any stolen items subsequently be recovered.  If you have a bike you can also registering it at www.bikeregister.com

Christmas Refuse collections

At the time of writing, Hart District Council have not confirmed their Christmas Collection Dates or, when and where their Christmas Tree Recycling will be.  As soon as we have this information, we will put it out via Facebook, our App and on Noticeboards.

Please remember that wrapping paper, shredded paper, plastic packaging cannot be recycled so these materials need to go in the black bins.

Hart District Council will empty green glass collection crates from the kerbside.  If you would like an additional crate, they are free to collect from Hart District Council or the Parish Council office.   If you prefer to have a wheeled glass bin, they are available from Hart District Council and cost £30.

For more information about waste and recycling, please go to https://www.hart.gov.uk/waste-recycling or call 01252 622122.

Finally, the Parish Councillors and Office Staff would like to wish all our residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
