KEEP CALM AND SPEAK TO A COUNCILLOR
Ever wanting to keep in touch with residents, an informal get together is being organised every 4th Tuesday of the month in Hartletts Cafe from 6pm to 7pm. The first is on Tuesday 27th September. If you have any items you wish to bring to your councillors’ attentions please come along for a cup of tea or coffee.
HOOK HOPPA
Connecting the Community is a very important strap-line in Hook so please go to our website to see how the village will be physically connected!
BASSETTS MEAD
Young people have been spotted camping on Bassetts Mead. This is unacceptable, unpermitted activity for the site and has been made especially dangerous because of campfires. Will parents please discourage their children from taking part before damage or injury occurs. Please report any incidents to HPC or the Hampshire Wildlife Trust. The police are aware.
A MEN’S SHED IN HOOK
We are getting nearer to turning this into reality. If you are interested in securing a Men’s Shed in Hook make a date to come along to an open meeting at 7.45pm on Monday 17th October in Bartley room at the Community Centre.
Hook Parish Council in collaboration with Hart Voluntary Action wants to gauge interest amongst Hook residents about setting one up in the village. We are looking for men who live in Hook or nearby with some time on their hands to help with all stages from design, to set-up, to running the shed on a day to day basis. If you have not heard of Men’s Sheds before do look on the UK Association’s web-site http://menssheds.org.uk and then get in touch with .
A Men’s Shed is a larger version of the typical man’s shed in the garden. A Men’s Shed offers men of all ages, including older men, who like to pursue practical pursuits (e.g. wood-work or metal-work), a place to share tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing or on joint projects. Men’s Sheds are places of skill-sharing and informal learning and a place of leisure where men come together to work. There are already 334 Men’s Sheds operating across the UK and more opening all the time, with a wealth of evidence that they help men stay connected and active.
Let’s make sure that Hook gets a Men’s Shed.
COUNCILLOR VACANCY
A vacancy has arisen for a councillor because of the resignation of Iain Chalmers due to work commitments. As 10 applications for an election have not been received by Hart’s Returning Officer we will now need to fill the vacancy by co-option. Please see the Hook Parish Council website and noticeboards for information on how to apply. Closing date for applications is 15th September.

ELAINE BECOMES A COUNCILLOR
Elaine Fordham who lives in Rectory Road was co-opted on to the Council at the 3rd August meeting.
A retired community midwifery sister, Elaine has lived in Hook for the past five years. She is a member of St. John’s church and a volunteer at St. Michael’s Hospice. She is also a Complementary Therapist and a Trustee for the Carers Trust (based in Reading).
With over 35 years of experience in the NHS, Elaine is passionate about local matters. Before retirement, alongside her midwifery role, she was Deputy Chairperson and Clinical Governance Lead for the Southampton Primary Care Trust (PCT).
Says Elaine, “I feel I can now use my talents and energy in support of the community in Hook, particularly young people and the socially excluded. I am very aware of the needs of hidden communities and the urgency to integrate them into the community. I would like to see more co-operation between our community services – Police, Health, Social Services, Local Councils and Voluntary Services.”
FAREWELL TO CHRISTINE
It is with sadness that we bid farewell to our Deputy Clerk Christine Randall, who also acts as Clerk to the Planning Committee and deals with all matters concerning planning. Christine’s knowledge, dedication and experience over the last 12 years has been invaluable as Hook has developed and grown. Retiring for personal reasons, Christine will still advise Hook on matters concerning the Hart Local Plan and Hook Neighbourhood Plan.
