Monthly Bulletin: May 2019

Annual Village Meeting and Annual Report

During April, the Hook Annual Report was delivered to every household, along with flyers for the Echo Hotel Music Club/Hook Live gigs and the “Hook App”.

The Annual Village meeting will take place on Wednesday 1st May from 8pm at Hook Community Centre.  As in previous years the doors will open at 8pm with a welcome drink and a chance to visit the exhibition.  This year there is also an opportunity to meet and chat to the 15 candidates (9 current councillors and 6 new nominees) for the Parish Council elections being held the following day.

The agenda can be viewed on our Website and Noticeboards. There will be a large number of local groups and organisations displaying information, a number of speakers and presentation of the Community Award.

Parish and District Council Elections

Both District and Parish Council elections will take place on Thursday 2nd May at Elizabeth Hall.  Details of the candidates for both elections can be found on the Hart District Council website and Parish Council noticeboards

At the Polling Station, you will receive two ballot papers. One for the Parish Council Elections and one for the District Council Elections.

We are delighted to have 15 Candidates for the 12 seats on the Parish Council.  The candidates have produced a combined leaflet, which you should have received through the door during April.  Copies will also be available at the Annual Village Meeting.

The Parish Council ballot paper will list all 15 candidates and you will need to select up to 12.  The District Council ballot paper will list 6 candidates and you will need to select up to 2.

If this is your first time voting, the staff at the polling station will be happy to explain what to do.

Hook Village Show

Work is well underway in organising this popular Annual Event held at Hartletts Park. This year it will be held on 7th July.   Once again, the event is being organised on behalf of the Parish Council, in partnership with Hook and Odiham Lions, who are busy putting everything in place.  If you would like a stall, please contact Terry Cheeseman at .

Echo Hotel Music Club/Hook Live

Hook Road Race and Fun Run

The Community Centre Car Park will be CLOSED on Sunday 19th May, for the Annual Hook Fun Run and Road Races, which set off from Hartletts Park at 10.00 am.  Why not come along and join in the fun?

Community Transport

The Parish Council is in discussions with Hartley Wintney Parish Council regarding the provision of Community Transport for Hook.  There are two existing services available to Hook residents.

The door to door shopper service is aimed at helping those with mobility challenges to reach Fleet, Basingstoke and The Meadows and Camberley.

There is also a timetabled service which connects Hook with Hartley Wintney, Yateley, The Meadows and Camberley.  This service is open to all and passengers can use the existing bus stops along the route to request the bus to stop.

There will be a stall at the Annual Village Meeting, or for more information contact 01252 849712 or e-mail .

Owen Farm Appeal

The Inspectors Inquiry for the Owens Farm (West of Hook) Planning Appeal opened on 19th March.  Representations were made by Hook Parish Council, Hook Neighbourhood Plan, individual residents, Hook Action Against Overdevelopment, Whitewater Valley Preservation Society, Newnham Parish Council, Basingstoke & Dean Borough Council and Hart District Council during the first three days of the hearing.  On the morning of day 4, the developer withdrew their appeal.  This was done on condition that they would not be held liable for the other parties’ costs.  This was viewed as a great victory for local democracy.

Following the withdrawal of the appeal, the developer subsequently withdrew their application for deregistration of areas of Common and Village Green along Newnham Road.
