Skate Park Replacement

We have received notification from Hart District Council that the planning permission for the replacement Skate Park at Hartletts Park has been granted.  Our contractor, Canvas, will now produce final plans with a view to commencing work imminently.  This will mean we will have to close the existing park while the new one is constructed.  We hope the work will be completed by the early summer.

Become a Councillor

Are you passionate about Hook? Do you want to have more of a say in how your precept is spent?  Do you want to help continue to make Hook a great place to live and work?  Now is your chance.

In May, the 12 current Parish Councillors will step down and residents of Hook will have the opportunity to go the polls to vote for the members of the next Council.  Parish Councillors serve a 4-year term.  The roles are unpaid (although allowances are available) and you will be required to attend a minimum of 1 Council meeting per month.  Additional meetings will need to be attended and the frequency is dependent on which Committees you decide to sit on.

If you are interested in standing to be a Councillor, we recommend coming to talk to our Clerk and attending some of our meetings, to get a clear idea of what is involved in this valuable and important role.  All meetings are open to the public to attend. The meeting calendar and all contact details can be found on our website www.hook.gov.uk

Hart District Council are running a “Candidate Briefing” (online and in person) on the 15th March that will provide more information on what being a Councillor entails.  Please contact us (Hook Parish Council) for more details.

Application forms to stand for Council will be available from Hart District Council.  We will advise via our usual channels when nominations open.

Annual Village Meeting

As mentioned last month, due to the upcoming local elections this year, we are holding our Annual Village Meeting (AVM) in April rather than May. It will be on Saturday 22nd April, 2pm – 5pm, at Hook Community Centre. We will be keeping the format the same i.e. an exhibition of local groups, followed by the main formal meeting, with guest speakers.

If your organisation would like a stall, please complete the form on our website http://bit.ly/3krLK5T.  Stalls are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Community Award

This is your last chance to nominate a person or group for the Hook Community Award 2023 that will be presented at the Annual Village Meeting in April.

The only firm rule for nomination is that the person or organisation must have given service to our community, on an entirely voluntary basis and over a sustained period.  If you have previously nominated someone, who was not the successful nominee that year, please re-nominate those individuals or groups again for them to be in the running this year.

Nominations should be submitted in writing by post to the Parish Council Office or emailed to .  Closing date for nominations is 20th March 2023.  Forms are available on our website http://bit.ly/3Hd1nal

Elections and Voter ID

There are major changes this year for the local elections in May and for future elections.  Due to the increased size of Hook, there will now be two polling stations serving the village. These will be Elizabeth Hall and Hook Community Centre.  For those casting their vote in person rather than via a postal vote, please check your polling card as to which polling station to attend, as you will ONLY be able to vote at the one listed on your card.

Also, you will need photographic ID this year in order to vote, you cannot vote in person without it.  Should you not have one of the authorised forms of ID you will need to apply for a voter ID.  The deadline to apply is 5pm on Tuesday 25th April 2023.  Details of accepted ID and how to apply for a voter ID can be found on the Electoral Commission’s Website. electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID

Coronation Event – Save the Date

Plans are well underway for our Coronation Event on 7th May at Hartletts Park.  We will provide more details on what is planned nearer the time, but pencil this date in your diaries now.
