Happy New Year
We hope all our residents had an enjoyable time over the festive break.
In light of the current economic climate, we decided this year that for Community Christmas we wanted to ensure that we targeted those who really needed support. We therefore provided £750 to the Hook Centre of Hart Foodbank and some of our Councillors went along to help pack the boxes. The Foodbank is located in the Life Church in Hook. Please follow them on Facebook to find out what items they require donations of. https://www.facebook.com/hartfoodbank. They provide not only food, but toiletries too.
Christmas Tree collections
Hart District Council have advised that they will be running their Christmas Tree Recycling collection points. The collection point for Hook will be in Crossways Car Park (next to the Doctors Surgery) from the 2nd January – 29th January. If you subscribe to the Green Waste Subscription service, you will be able to leave your tree out with your green bin collections after Christmas, until 29th January. The Scouts will also be running their Christmas Tree recycling scheme. See page X for more information.
Christmas Tree and Lights
We do hope our residents enjoyed our Christmas Lights display this year. As we previously advised we were trialling a new display this year. We hope you had a chance to see the Christmas Wishes Baubles that we put up around the Christmas Tree. We invited the children of Hook Infant and Hook Junior Schools to create the Christmas wishes baubles. They contained some really heart-warming messages – some wished for peace, others wished to have lost loved ones with them, others were looking forward to Christmas dinner and spending time with their families and some were just wanting snow and hoping they had been good, so Santa would bring them a present. They also did some beautiful drawings. Our thanks to all the children that participated to produce such a lovely addition to our Christmas display this year.
Our thanks also, to Goslings Garden and Fencing Services who provided and installed the Christmas tree and fencing this year.
We would like to hear residents’ feedback so we can start planning next years’ display (we have to start early)!!
Become a Councillor
Are you passionate about Hook? Do you want to have more of a say in how your precept is spent? Do you want to help continue to make Hook a great place to live and work? Now is your chance.
In May, the 12 current Parish Councillors will step down and residents of Hook will have the opportunity to go the polls to vote for the members of the next Council. Parish Councillors serve a 4-year term. The roles are unpaid (although allowances are available) and you will be required to attend a minimum of 1 Council meeting per month. Additional meetings will need to be attended and the frequency is dependent on which Committees you decide to sit on.
If you are interested in standing to be a Councillor, we recommend coming to talk to our Clerk and attending some of our meetings, to get a clear idea of what is involved in this valuable and important role. All meetings are open to the public to attend. The meeting calendar and all contact details can be found on our website www.hook.gov.uk
Applications to stand for Council will be available from Hart District Council in Spring 2023. We will advise via our usual channels when nominations open.
