Monthly Bulletin: January 2019

Happy New Year

The Councillors and Staff of Parish Council would like to wish all of our residents a happy New Year.  We have lots of exciting new things planned for 2019, so look out for updates in the usual places – Hook Focus, noticeboards, our website, the App and on Facebook.

Christmas Trees

Thank you to Hortus Loci for providing the two large Christmas trees in Hook that have been on display at Grand Parade and at Hook Community Centre during December.  Thanks also go to Tesco, and particularly to Sandra Tidy, who organised decorating the tree on Grand Parade and a lovely carol service, around the tree, on the 8th December, along with hot chocolate, mince pies for everyone who came along to join in.  It was a lovely community event and had a good turnout, despite the cold, damp weather.

Community Christmas Lunch

At the time of writing, the 2018 Hook Community Christmas Lunch is in the final stages of planning.  We are expecting around 25 people, who expect to be alone on Christmas Day to join in the fun.  This year, the larger number of guests meant moving the lunch into the Community Centre, having outgrown Hartletts Café (last years’ venue).  Thank you to all the residents and businesses who have either donated time, money or goods to this event.

Neighbourhood Plan Consultations

The Neighbourhood Plan is nearly complete.  The consultation period closed on the 20th December and the Neighbourhood Plan Steering group is now collating the responses.  Any necessary changes will be made, ready for it to be approved for submission to the next stage in the process early in the New Year.

Hook Live

Last Summer Hook Parish Council (HPC) ran a survey on what activities and entertainments Hook residents would like to see in our Village.  There was a good response with significant support for more live music.  Consequently, HPC is delighted to announce that it has established ‘Hook Live!’, a managed, branded vehicle to organise and co-ordinate the calendar of future HPC-sponsored live entertainment for the village.

As part of that initiative, the ‘Echo Hotel Music Club’ has been established to focus on events or gigs by original music artists and bands.  HPC has been very proactive in kick-starting this exciting new venture.  Events are already being advertised through the dedicated ’Hook Live!’ and ‘Echo Hotel Music Club’ Facebook pages, the HPC App, Hook Focus magazine, posters and leaflets around the village.

Gigs hosted by the ‘Echo Hotel Music Club’ will be held (mostly) at the Elizabeth Hall.   The programme kicks off on Saturday 16 February 2019 at 7pm, with the much in-demand music-festival favourites, the Rufus Black band, supported by the exciting new talent of Jade Danielle Williams.  Check out just how good these bands are by reading their biographies, view videos of them performing live and buy event tickets online via the links on the ‘Echo Hotel Music Club’ Facebook page – see below.

Future gigs already confirmed are:

  • Sunday 10 March 2019: Xander and the Peace Pirates + Support
  • Saturday 20 April 2019: Jo Harman + guest(s)
  • Saturday 28 September 2019: Sari Schorr

All these bands are recording artists that are in great demand on the live music circuit and fill halls and concert venues all over the country and abroad.  So, get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.  Not only will you enjoy a rocking night of great music, performed by brilliant musicians, you will also be able to meet the artists themselves afterwards.

See you at the first gig!

Recycling Christmas Trees

Between Monday 7th January and Friday 1st February, Hart District Council are again running free recycling collection points for real Christmas Trees.  Please take your tree to the local collection point and place it in the cordoned-off area.  Hart’s team will remove the trees on a regular basis during January.   The Hook collection point will be:

  • Crossways Car Park, Hook (By the doctors)

There will be other collection points across the Hart District.  Please contact Hart on 01252 622122 or www.hart.gov.uk/waste-recycling for more information on these .
