Monthly Bulletin: April 2023

Skate Park Replacement

At the time of writing, work has started to dismantle the existing skatepark and clear the site.  We will provide updates in the coming months to let you know how work is progressing on this exciting new provision for the children and young adults of Hook.

Become a Councillor

As many are aware, in May, the 12 current Parish Councillors will step down and residents of Hook will have the opportunity to go the polls to vote for the members of the next Council.  Parish Councillors serve a 4-year term.  The roles are unpaid (although allowances are available) and you will be required to attend a minimum of 1 Council meeting per month.  Additional meetings will need to be attended and the frequency is dependent on which Committees you decide to sit on.

We understand that application forms to stand for Council will be available from Hart District Council (HDC) at the end of March.  There will be a very quick turnaround time and the forms need to be hand delivered back to HDC.  As yet, Hart have not confirmed the date, but we believe it will be the first week in April!.

Council Tax bills and precept

All households in Hart District will now have received their Council Tax bills for 2023-24. The Council Tax collected from each household includes a precept for the Parish Council which pays for all the services we provide. The Council were very pleased to be able to decrease the per household charge this year by 2.6%. This has been due to prudent budgeting and negotiation with contractors so despite virtually all of our costs increasing, we have absorbed some increases and made cuts where we can (whilst still providing a good service to you) to reduce the financial burden on residents. A copy of our budget for 2023-24 can be found on our website http://bit.ly/3waa3If

Annual Village Meeting

The Hook Annual Village meeting will be taking place earlier than usual in April due to the up-coming Local Elections in May and for the first time, on a Saturday.

It will be at Hook Community Centre on Saturday 22nd April 2pm – 5pm. We will be keeping the format the same as in previous years i.e. an exhibition of local groups, followed by the main formal meeting, with guest speakers.

Our guest speakers have now been confirmed as Donna Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and John Flood from Canvas, our Skate Park contractor.  In addition to our guest speakers, we will also be presenting the Community Award 2023.  There will be a number of local organisations and groups that will have stalls you can visit, prior to the main meeting, where you will have the opportunity to find out more about them.

Voter ID

There are major changes this year for the local elections in May and for future elections.  You will need photographic ID this year in order to vote, you cannot vote in person without it.  Should you not have one of the authorised forms of ID you will need to apply for a voter ID.  The deadline to apply is 5pm on Tuesday 25th April 2023.  Details of accepted ID and how to apply for a voter ID can be found on the Electoral Commission’s Website. electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID
