News Bulletin: May 2012

The Annual Village Meeting took place on Wednesday 25th April, as the Focus magazine had just been printed. A report on the meeting will appear in the June edition.

Proposals for a major refurbishment of Hook Community Centre were presented for consultation at the meeting. Some of the plans displayed can be seen in the centre pages of this edition of Focus.

Councillor Nigel Carpenter resigned his seat on 31st March, after 9 years service as a Councillor. Our thanks go to Nigel for the significant contribution he has made to Hook whilst on the Council, in particular as a former Chairman of the Council and more recently as Chairman of the Development Strategy Committee. The Elizabeth Hall stands as a testament to his commitment, diligence and tenacity. We wish him well in his full time retirement.

The councillor vacancy was advertised on 16th April and an announcement about whether an election will be held will be made early in May. Hook Parish Council is always keen to engage with residents and encourage participation. Hook can be proud of its record of enthusiastic candidates presenting when an election is declared. We would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in helping shape the future of your local community and influence how residents’ money is spent. Time and enthusiasm are the key requirements. Please contact the Clerk, Anne Atkins, for a chat and more information about this rewarding role.

One way of finding out more about the work of the Parish Council and issues affecting Hook is to attend the monthly Parish Council meeting. This normally takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at the Community Centre in Ravenscroft at 8pm. Members of the public are most welcome to attend. Agendas are posted on our notice boards in Grand Parade, on the footpath from the A30 to the schools and outside the Parish Council office in Ravenscroft. Do just come along or contact Anne Atkins on the number below to find out more!

Many of you will be aware that 2012 is the 80th Birthday of Hook being established as a Civil Parish. If you were born in 1932 or lived in the area we now call Hook at that time, we would like to hear from you. Perhaps you have a neighbour or know someone this might apply to. If so, please encourage them to contact the Parish Council Office.

Anne Atkins – Clerk
