Dr Jane Worlock, Chairman, Hook Parish Council responds to the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on 9th April 2021
Dr Jane Worlock, Chairman of Hook Parish Council said:
“It is with great sadness that Hook Parish Council joins the nation in mourning the passing of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. His loss will be felt by many in the community of Hook, and particularly by the young people who are involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. The loss of the Duke will be felt throughout the commonwealth, not only as the longest-serving consort to a British monarch and a major national figure, but as an active supporter of a huge number of charities for more than seven decades.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the Royal Family, to whom we send our heartfelt condolences.”
As a mark of respect, the Union flag in Hartletts Park will continue to be flown at half-mast throughout the eight days of morning, ending on Sunday 18th April.
In line with current Covid restrictions and the wishes of the Royal Family, we are unable to open a physical Book of Condolence. Residents wishing to send a message to the Royal Family can do so via https://www.royal.uk/. For those unable to submit a message online, single page written tributes can be sent to Hart District Council marked “book of condolence” before 6th May. These will subsequently be bound into a book.
The public are asked not to travel to London or other landmarks to lay tributes in public spaces. It is understood that arrangements will be coordinated to reflect and mourn, once it is safe to do so and easing restrictions enable this to take place.
The Royal Household understand that members of the public would like to express their grief on the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
