Community Centre Refurbishment
The contract for the refurbishment of the Community Centre has been awarded to The Construction Partnership (TCP). This is a locally based company with wide experience of refurbishments in public works such as schools, hospitals and leisure complexes. TCP have a strong reputation for safety concerns and are members of the Considerate Contractors Scheme. They will be contacting all of the neighbouring houses to make them aware of any potential problems and will work with the community to minimise disruption and inconvenience.
December will see little visible change to the building, apart from some preliminary work and TCP setting up the site compound. Work with start in January to provide alternative accommodation for the Nursery and Parish Council Office, who will remain on site throughout, along with the Base. We will continue to welcome visitors to the Parish Council Office, so dog walkers will still be able to collect dog waste bags. Access to our relocated office is yet to be finalised – hard hats will be provided if needed!!
During the construction, parking will be restricted during weekdays. This will particularly affect the school run as it is anticipated that one section of the car park will be required for contractors’ vehicles and those continuing to work on site during the building work. The school will remind parents that Crossways car park is free until 9 am and with a permit, between 3 and 4 pm. Permits to park in the afternoon period are available from the school office.
Change of Parish Council Meeting Venue in 2014
Due to the closure of the Community Centre, all meetings of the Parish Council and its Committees will be relocated to Elizabeth Hall from January 2014 until the construction work is completed. The first meetings to be affected are:
- Planning Committee and Parish Council – 8th January 2014
- Planning and Amenities Committees – 22nd January 2014
The Calendar of meetings for 2014 and agendas can be found on the Parish Council noticeboards and our website at www.hook.gov.uk.
Parish Council Christmas and New Year Office Hours
The Parish Council Office will close on Tuesday 24th December and re-open on Thursday 2nd January 2014.
Taxi Bus Trial
Residents will be aware that there have been changes in bus services in recent years. The 100 service is due to cease in February, which will leave those living east of Griffin Way with no public transport. A survey of 1100 houses in this quadrant of Hook showed clear support for some form of transport to be established. Discussions have taken place with local taxi companies and Capital Cars have agreed to operate a trial service. It is expected that this will commence early in 2014. The aim would be to help residents access the centre of Hook to link to amenities and transport. Fares are expected to be roughly in line with other bus services and concessionary passes will be accepted. Details of the timetable will be published as soon as a start date for the service is finalised.
A day of Free Parking – As the Focus goes to Press we have been advised that all car parks in Hart will be free on Saturday 7th December 2013. This is an initiative from Hart District Council intended to help small businesses and shoppers in the run up to Christmas. In Hook, this means free parking at Crossways Car Park (Reading Road) on the day of the Christmas Cracker. This will be a huge benefit to anyone wanting to park or shop in the daytime, whilst the team are busy preparing the centre of Hook for the Cracker.
