Providence House, Bartley Way – There will be a public exhibition (pre-application) at Hook Community Centre on Friday 6th May 2016 between 14:00 & 22:00 for the new buildings proposed in the car parks at Providence House, hosted by Bell Cornwell. The car park areas have been sold separately to the main building that already has planning permissions.
ANNUAL VILLAGE MEETING
The Hook Annual Village Meeting (AVM) will be held on Wednesday 18th May at 8.00 pm at Hook Community Centre.
- Hart District Council has been invited to provide an update on the Local Plan and housing numbers for Hook.
- A progress report will be given on the Hook Neighbourhood Plan
The AVM is a community meeting, not a Parish Council meeting and we always welcome ideas for the kind of presentations or activities residents would like to see at this event.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING EVENT ON THURSDAY 7TH APRIL
Supported by 35 local organisations, Hook’s first Health and Wellbeing Event on Thursday 7th April was opened by Mr. Ranil Jayawardena MP. Chairman of Hampshire County Council, Cllr. Jonathan Glen also took time to meet the many organisations and volunteers that serve Hook and the surrounding area.
The community led event, supported by Hook Parish Council and funded by the Big Lottery Fund Grants for All initiative, was held at the new Hook Community Centre and created a networking hub for the day. Positive feedback from exhibitors was that it was great to meet up with so many other organisations in a day, to discover ways of working together, with a chance to publicise to Hook residents what organisations do and to recruit members for the various activities and services they offer.
In addition to the stands in the main hall, training courses saw 26 people learning about life saving CPR and how the village’s defibrillators are accessed and used. Hook has a defibrillator in the village centre with we plan to installed a further one outside Hook Community Centre. Other courses included the Feldenkrais Method of movement and education, Spiritual Wellbeing, Digestive and Health Nutrition, Simple Cancer Prevention by Victoria’s Promise, Aspects of Hearing and an interactive session by Dementia Friends.
The Bell Meadow and Bramshott Drive area of Hook is due to be resurfaced by Hampshire County Council. Not only is it good news for nearby residents, but also for the cyclists who use it as a through route to the business area and Holt Lane plus the children who undertake their cycle proficiency training in the vicinity. The works could take place any time over the next few months and residents should watch out for letters with advice as to when to move their cars.
HOOK IN BLOOM
Now that they know £8,000 is coming from the Tesco’s BagsforHelp initiative, the In Bloom volunteers will be planting for In Bloom. The first phase will be the planting of the Hampshire and other ground cover roses from County Series of roses, which will mainly be in the village centre with perhaps some around the new Community Centre. It is then hoped to move on to new containers at strategic places like the entrances into Hook. Hart District Council are budgeting autumn planting of spring bulbs and wild flowers, so that we can have swathes of colour, and are looking at other areas where they can make a positive impact to the environment.
In April, led by young people in Hook, there were several litter picks and tidy ups. More about these in next month’s Hook Focus. All these activity is in support of Hook in Bloom.
All this activity will take time and for more In Bloom news please see page……
