COUNCILLOR VACANCY

The closing date for receipt of applications was Thursday 9th June 2016. Co-option will take place on Wednesday 3rd August 2016 so by the time Hook Focus goes to press again we shall be able announce our 12th Councillor.

LOCAL PLAN CONSULTATION RESULT

The results of the Hart Local Plan Refined Housing Options 2016 Consultation have been published.  A brief summary is:

  • Winchfield is the preferred option (59%), and strategic urban extensions (SUX) the least favoured (13%). 29% favoured Dispersal.
  • Of the combined approaches:
    • 40% Winchfield + Dispersal
    • 35% of people favoured SUX + Dispersal
    • 21% Winchfield + SUX
    • 4% all three

The full report is at www.hart.gov.uk/local-plan-housing-options-results-2016. According to this, 684 of the 4030 responses from within Hart (17%) were from Hook residents.  As Hook comprises of 9% of Hart’s population, this justifies the effort made by the residents and local organisations in responding to the consultation.

BASSETTS MEAD

Several improvements are planned for Bassetts Mead, including new gate access way posts and information boards, so do look out for their arrival.

Please also remember, as the school holidays arrive and the weather gets warmer, when you visit Bassetts Mead, or anywhere else in Hook, please clear up after your dogs.  Remember humans of all ages can contract toxocariasis from dogs’ poo and children between the ages of 1 to 4 are particularly susceptible. Free dog poo bags are available, mornings only, from the Parish Council offices.

MORE ROSES IN HOOK

The Cemetery has a new memorial rose bed at the top of the current burial area to cover the drain that runs to the Rectory. It is located on the right hand side as you enter the cemetery from the pedestrian gate. There is now an opportunity for a rose bush to be planted in remembrance of a loved one once permission has been obtained from the Parish Council.

 HOOK IN BLOOM

Children from Hook Junior School have been helping with In Bloom, including assisting volunteers to plant roses in time for the Hook Royal Party in the Elizabeth Hall grounds. As Hook Focus goes to press, and as weather permits, planting will continue in the village centre.  Hook In Bloom volunteers would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved by emailing:

 HOOK ROYAL PARTY

It was wonderful to see how all the various village organisations worked together to make this a resounding success despite the threatening weather.

MEN’S SHED – WHAT IS THIS?

We are investigating the possibility of having a men’s shed in Hook. No promises yet but if you are interested in getting involved please email .

A larger version of a typical man’s shed, a place where a man can feel at home and pursue practical interests, the shed would have available tools, etc. for a group of men to share and use. The tools could be used for their own projects, or may be the men would like to work on community projects. But the purpose of the shed would be a place to meet, share skills, learn and chat to other men.

So keep a look out for further information but, in the meantime, if you would like to be involved in helping to move the project forward get in touch with the Parish Council. Better that men help to make the project work rather than the women sort it out for them!

 SAVE THE DATES
