Monthly Bulletin: July/August 2019

Hook Village Show

This popular annual event will take place at Hartletts Park on 7th July from 12 noon – 5 pm.  The event is organised, in partnership with Hook and Odiham Lions.  A Village Show programme, detailing the attractions and timetable of events, was delivered to every household in Hook, last month.  If you wish to enter your four-legged friend in the Dog Show, please make sure you register and pay by 2pm, when judging of the first class starts.

Please be aware that the Community Centre car park will be closed from 9pm on Saturday 6th July until 6:30pm on Sunday 7th.  From 7:30am Sunday until 6:30pm the grassed area and skate park in Hartletts Park will be closed to the public, unless you are attending the show.  There will be a small area of the car park open during the event, for blue badge holders and those visiting the community centre/café.  We look forward to seeing you all there, to enjoy this family friendly event.

Parking

Hook Parish Council (HPC) has received numerous complaints about parking along the A30 end of Sheldons Lane.  Whilst HPC do not have authority over the highway, we work in collaboration with Hampshire Highways (HH) and Hart District Council (HDC) who do have the authority to resolve such issues.

New parking restriction orders are authorised by HDC on a rolling basis.  HDC adds qualifying projects to their work list (in order of impact/safety priority) known as a “Parking Consolidation Order (PCO)”. Raising PCO’s s is a costly, and slow process, with a small budget for such works.  For this reason, PCO’s are only raised when there is sufficient works to justify a collective Order, not for ad hoc schemes.  Having recently implemented a PCO, which included the double yellow lines along Elizabeth Hall access road, it will be some time before a further PCO is authorised.

Whilst HPC has recommended a PCO is put in place, any restrictions on Sheldons Lane are likely to result in displacement of the problem to another residential streets.  HDC will be keen to avoid this outcome when considering measures and options that could be included in a PCO, to resolve residents concerns about parking in that area.
